Bible study – The basic of prayer

What to pray for and how to pray
1. Mention some of the points Jesus used in His model prayer? Luke 11: 1-4
2. How can you use the prayer points in Luke 11 to enrich your own prayer life?
3. We learn “how” and “what” to pray for from the Bible?
a. What to pray for.
Mention some of the things Paul prayed for in the following places
Ephesians 1: 15-23
Ephesians 3: 14 – 21
Philippians 1: 3-11
Colossians 1: 3 -18
1 Timothy 2: 1-6
Remember to use the above prayers in your own prayer life. You can do this by either making them your own personal prayers (changing some of the words where appropriate) or by simply reading them aloud to yourself and meditating on them.
b. How to pray (times, posture etc)
What do the following teach us about how to pray?
Acts 4: 24 (aloud)
1 Samuel 1: 12-14 (silent)
2 Kings 4: 32-37 (walking up and down)
1 Kings 18: 41-46 (bowing / kneeling)
Psalm 5: 1-3 (early morning)
Psalm 119: 148 (late at night)
1 Timothy 2: 8 (lifting up hands)
Ephesians 3: 14 (kneeling down)
Psalm 149: 5-6 (aloud when alone)
Acts 4: 31 (aloud when together)
Acts 2: 4, Romans 8: 26-27, 1 Corinthians 14: 14-15, (with the Holy Spirit)
The posture we take in prayer is very important. Learn to take different postures during your prayer times. Kneeling down, walking about, lifting up your hands are ways of bringing your flesh to worship and honour God.
